These female figurines were first found on Urmila Devi's grandmother's ankles. Devi recreated them on canvas, honoring a deeply held belief that tattoos are permanent marks carried even beyond death. For the women of this community, the geometric Godna patterns adorning their bodies have, over generations, been translated faithfully onto cloth — bridging skin and textile as continuous surfaces of cultural memory.
